History

On December 03, 1994, Sony took it's chances and released a game console on the unsuspecting world (or, at least, Japan) - the Playstation; a 32-bit, cd-based game machine.
At the time, it's rivals at the time included the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo 64. Despite this, over 300,000 Playstations were sold within the first 30 days of release.

The Playstation was first shown to the United States at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in May of 1995. On September 09, 1995, the console was officially released, retailing at $299.00. By the end of 1996, Sony dropped the price to $199.00 and reported sales exceeding 7 million consoles, worldwide.
